fearfortheflesh asked: I'm still searching for my voice. Where did it go? Or, am I meant to communicate by some other form, perhaps? I went to a hip hop festival. I've never been exposed much to this type of music, but the passion for change I witnessed in some of the artists deeply inspired me, & I enjoyed the intellectual stimulation. A man who went by Othello gave a powerful speech about joining together through creativity to spark a movement & he gave me a pep talk. I'm relieved this passion exists around here.
Open your mind and your spirit to any source of inspiration and you will be changed forever.
rim-jobs-on-saturn asked: A while back I sent you an ask stating that I was at the end of the line, that I just wanted to die because I couldn't take life anymore. Since then, life has still been pretty turbulent and scary, but I'm still fighting and it's because of your message. You've made me realize that I have the right to be who I am and feel the feelings I have as long as I take them and turn them into something beautiful. I'm still fighting to be happy and alive and I want to thank you.
Keep fighting. Keep striving. Meditate on what you really want in life. Become still, breathe, let the anxieties and fears drain from you like rainwater. Then, in those quiet moments, ask …. and listen.
The Ancient Roman Gravestone of Helena, about A.D. 150 - 200, marble.
Courtesy & currently located at the Getty Villa, Malibu:
A Maltese dog in the architectural setting of a naiskos, or small shrine, decorates this Roman grave relief. The inscription on the relief reads, “To Helena, foster daughter, the incomparable and worthy soul.”
Was the Helena commemorated by this sculpture a dog or a girl? The Romans made grave reliefs for animals, but these usually took a different form and their inscriptions specify that they were intended for an animal. On the other hand, funerary monuments for children often show the child with a favorite pet. In this instance, however, the pet is shown alone, which might be more appropriate if Helena was not a high-born Roman. The inscription appears to support this interpretation because the word alumnus, although here translated as “foster daughter,” can also mean a slave raised in the house.

French President François Hollande officially signed a marriage equality bill into law this morning, making France the 14th country to legalize same-sex marriage. In addition, all married same-sex couples will now be able to adopt children.
Hollande is not doing well in terms of public opinion lately, and opponents of LGBT rights have retaliated against the marriage movement with violent protests and attacks. In the face of such adversity, the passing of the law is all the more significant.
Mr. Hollande signed the bill a day after the Constitutional Council dismissed a legal challenge by the right-wing opposition. “I will ensure that the law applies across the whole territory, in full, and I will not accept any disruption of these marriages,” he said.
Gay rights advocates praised the law, while a watchdog group, SOS Homophobie, said that France “has taken a great step forward today, although it is regrettable that it was taken in a climate of bad faith and homophobic violence.”
